Apache Air Assault
A Flight Simulation Game For The Real Action Boy
If you are looking for some serious air combat and are a pro at flying helicopters, this is the simulator game you will find most engaging. While I do enjoy air combat games, I do not fancy myself as a helicopter flier. So at the very outset let me mention that this is not a game for the masses.
Gaijin Entertainment, that is the Russian manufacturer of this game, also have a license to manufacture real Apache copters, so it is not an exaggeration to say that they have indeed brought this expertise to this game. With Apache Air Assault it is like finding yourself inside the cockpit of a real Apache AH-64D attack helicopter.

Difficult To Grasp Controls
Once you are airborne, you will find that every mission of the Apache has a background story that you will be given a briefing about. At each stage you will be in the cockpit of a deadly helicopter blowing out your enemies who are either airborne or on the ground targets. While playing the game I found that at every stage I had to lash out on enemies and take them up in combat, either to cover friends on the ground, or to finish a barrage of enemies headed towards me. Every stage in the game is engaging and a lethal combat that requires tact and precision.
However, like I mentioned before the biggest downer for this game is that the controls go awry if you are not are pro. No sooner than I was finished with the tutorials than I found myself stumbling with the controls as the game got into the realistic mode. If I might add at this stage, it is easy to give up in frustration, as the controls are real tricky, and it is nearly impossible to carry on without complete mastery over flying this virtual demon of a helicopter.
Apache Air Assault Gameplay
For The Hardcore Action Guys
Although made to feel like a real life helicopter combat, this game does not replicate real life wars, instead gives it a kind of storyline that call for men to show their honour when the need of the hour arises. Although I found the storyline droning and a bit of a drag, it must be said that the manufacturers have delivered on the helicopter combat what they had promised. It is indeed a full blown helicopter combat. If you are a hardcore action guy with a love for copters you will keep at it, but after I while, I could not find enough interest to keep playing as the helicopter combat sounds did not do enough to keep me engaged.
Review Conclusion
Overall the game does offer 16 stages of combat that can be engaging, but the missions seem a little repetitive and like me, if you feel restricted because you have not been able to master controls, you may find it difficult to move beyond the learning curve. However if you are a pro, I am sure it will be quite an experience to fly the Apache helicopter and enjoy a good old school air combat.
